Annual Church Service

Sunday 11th February

 

Our annual church service at the Lychette Matravers Methodist Church was attended today with 12 members in attendance, unfortunately our President was unable to attend because of illness. 

 

We had a lovely service officiated by Chris Blake (who was 1/8 th Cornish).

 

The sevice finished with attendance at a Sunday lunch in the Rose and Crown at Lychette Matravers.

A New Testament written in Cornish

Together with a cross made from the old pews of a local updated church. The cross piece split to represent two nails of the crucifixion.

Flag raising 

14th February

 

Our annual flag raising, celebrating the birthday of Lewis Tregonwel, took place in the rain today at 10.00.

 

The Deputy Mayor ably stood in for the Mayor today.

 

The flag raising was followed by a brief service at the graveside of Lewis Tregonwell in St Peter's church, conducted by Rev. Steve Parselle. This was followed by coffee and cake in the church.

Bear Cross Lunch

13th March

 

It was interesting to see how somewhere we had been going to for some years had fared under new ownership. We need not have worried as standards seemed to be much the same.

 

15 of our members enjoyed the hospitality.

 

Pasty Supper Evening

18th April

 

We returned to our 'home' at Bearwood for a pasty evening which was enjoyed by 14 of our members. Unfortunately there was sickness about and 3 were unable to come.

It was 'eyes down' for a Dorset wordsearch. The evening ended with our usual Barnecutt pasty (sent up from Cornwall) lovely deserts provided by our members. A raffle and a pleasant natter completed the evening.

16th May at he Bluebird Social Cluh

 

17 enjoyed the occasion, with everyone struggling to get decent scores.

The fish and chips arrived on time and were enjoyed by all.

Afternoon Cream Tea

23rd June

 

A small illness encouraged us to change venue for this event. Many thanks to Maragaret who made her home available.

 

Twelve members enjoyed a cream tea in the sunshine. A raffle added £34 to our coffers and Nina donated all the comestibles.

14th July

 

15 members and two guests enjoyed a lovely barbeque in the sunshine.

too much well cooked food and lovely desserts to follow all with Roddas and double cream. A profitable raffle finished the day.

 

 

Harvest Supper

19th September

 

Seventeen members enjoyed our evening, comprising three games of a Beetle Drive. Followed by one of our super buffet suppers.

Prizes for the 'Beetles' were given out the highest lady scorer, Susan and the highest male after a highest draw, Aubrey. The raffle was then drawn.

 

 

103rd Annual Dinner

19th October

 

This was to be our last Annual Dinner. The Riviera Hotel was attended by 28 persons, including 5 from London Cornish and 5 from the local Caledonian Society. A lovely meal was followed by vocal entertainment by Nicole Young. The interval allowed the raffle draw and the evening finished with a rousing singing of "Trelawney".
